What does a Frenchie really cost?

Many rescue Frenchies need medical care, and the breed is prone to a few expensive conditions. Know the numbers before you apply. These are typical US estimates from the sources linked below, not quotes or vet advice.

ItemTypical costSource
BOAS airway surgery (soft palate, nares, saccules)~$3,000–$5,500FrenchieInsurance surgery calculator
IVDD (spinal disc disease) surgery~$5,000–$10,000, plus ~$2,000–$3,500 for the MRIFrenchieInsurance vet-cost guide
Allergy management~$1,000–$3,000 / yearsame guide
Ongoing yearly cost (vet, food, grooming, supplies)~$3,200 / year (other estimates: $3,200–$5,400)PetCostVS, PetLifetimeCost

Ranges differ between sources (e.g. another source lists BOAS at $3,500–$6,500 and IVDD at $5,000–$9,000). Several of these sites sell or promote pet insurance, so treat them as rough guides and ask your own vet for a local quote. Many rescues complete airway surgery before adoption, which is why adoption fees can be higher.
